Nov, 2003 : Netcraft: Apache Uptake Up; 1&1, Go Daddy Make Gains
📅 - The total number of servers running on Apache platforms increased 2.80 percent last month, jumping from 64.61 to 67.41 percent of the total Web server market, according to Netcraft's (news.netcraft.com) November Web server survey. The 2.80 percent increase represented a rise in aggregate totals from 28,235,972 to 30,298,060.
In contrast, the survey found that the number of servers running Microsoft operating systems dropped by 2.44 percent from 23.46 to 21.02. This decrease represented a drop in aggregate totals from 10,252,227 to 9,449,180. SunOne and Zeus also lost market share last month, losing ground at rates of 3.39 and 1.65 percent respectively.
Last month's Netcraft survey also found Apache uptake on the rise and Microsoft's share of the Web server market down.
Netcraft also published its top ten list of hosting providers, compiled on the basis of growth in total hostnames. According to the results, 1&1 Internet (oneandone.co.uk -> fasthosts.co.uk) and Go Daddy (godaddy.com 👉 Total Reviews: 81

Netcraft's research showed that the third ranked provider IP Exchange GmbH had the highest percentage growth rate adding 71,593 host names, a 125.1 percent increase. The second fastest growing provider was ThePlanet.com at 33.6 percent, followed by EV1Servers.net at 9.2 percent and Host Europe at 7.0 percent.
The top 10 hosting providers by growth in host names were spread evenly between Europe and the U.S., according to the survey.
