Feb 25, 2004 : Solar Data Center Deploys SpamAssassin
📅 - Solar-powered data center operator Solar Data Center (solardatacenters.com) announced on Tuesday that itwill integrate open-source anti-spam solution SpamAssassin as a standard feature for approximately 300 clients.
SpamAssasin will be integrated into Solar Data Center's hosting services for free.
"Despite the signing of the CAN-SPAM act late last year, we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of spam sent to our servers over the past few months," said Steve May, president of Solar Data Centers. "[SpamAssasin] easily and quickly configures to the varied requirements of our customers and is widely known as the open-source standard for spam filtering and management."
Solar Data Centers reports that SpamAssassin differentiates between spam and non-spam messages 95 to 99 percent of the time. In less than 30 seconds, Spam-Assasin is able to sort through emails and send only correct emails to users.
SpamAssassin works by scoring each message that passes through Solar Data's email servers. The ranking system assigns good messages a negative score, and spam messages are assigned a positive score, sending the rest of the correct emails to the intended recipient. Emails are also checked for viruses and worms.
