👈 Official Responses: 0) announced on Wednesday that it has released CleanMail Plus, a customizable spam detector and virus shield that the company says will help its customers fight unsolicited commercial email. The company said CleanMail is also equipped with virus-blocking capabilities.

"People are extremely frustrated that their inboxes are overflowing with other unsolicited messages," says John Lee, director of marketing for Hostway. "CleanMail Plus puts control directly in the customers' hands, helping prevent these intrusive messages from ever being delivered and putting an end to the time wasted on them."
Hostway said the service is available to all new and existing customers of its premium hosting packages, free of charge. For customers of its gold and valueplus packages, a service fee will be charged.
According to Hostway, CleanMail Plus allows users to create white and black lists by email or domain name, helping them filter out unwanted email. CleanMail Plus rules can be customized at both the domain and individual email address level. This allows system administrators to set company-wide filtering rules while individual users are free to make their own filtering customizations. In addition, CleanMail Plus allows users to manage their filtering settings and preferences with a Web-based control panel.
Lee said the company supports recent lawsuits filed by major Internet service providers, including Microsoft, America Online, EarthLink and Yahoo. A number of the lawsuits cite certain aspects of the US CAN-SPAM legislation signed into law earlier this year.
"We fully support the intent behind the recent lawsuits and trust that the US CAN-SPAM legislation can help put an end to this epidemic in the long run, but we know that customers are demanding immediate action," says Lee.
