Ian Andrusyk, FastServers.net's president, said the company notified the FBI after learning last week that the sites were being operated by terrorist groups. The company hosted Arabic-language Web sites operated by Hamas, a militant Palestinian group; by the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, responsible for some Middle East suicide bombings; and for message forums used by al-Qaida supporters.
While one of the sites has been shut down, the company says it is awaiting instructions from the FBI on terminating the other sites. The servers reportedly used by terrorist groups were located in Fremont, California.
Aaron Phillips, VP of sales and marketing at the firm, said that the sites' operators were likely looking for Web hosting retailers that allowed them to register for accounts online, so they could operate undetected.
