Chris Phillips, CEO of Dot5Hosting, said the price, effective immediately, will be available for at least another year. "We have no plans to take it down."
Customers are not obliged to purchase a Web hosting plan to be eligible for the $2.50 price. However, Dot5Hosting intends to up-sell customers. The extremely low price is designed to increase our customer base and raise awareness of Dot5Hosting products and services, Phillips said.
Domain prices have dropped rapidly across the industry in the last year as Web hosting companies use the dramatically low prices to attract customers in the hopes of selling them other more profitable services. In June, Globat began offering domains for $3.99 per year and 1&1 Internet is currently offering .us domains for $2.99 per year in a promotional offer.
