📅 - Global Server Sales Up, Gartner Says - Research and analysis firm Gartner (gartner.com) said on Wednesday that global sales of servers surpassed $11.5 billion in the second quarter of 2004, an increase of 7.7 percent over the same period a year ago. On the basis of server revenue, IBM (ibm.com) held on to its top position with 30.7 percent market share in the second quarter of 2004. Hewlett-Packard (hp.com) followed with 27.3 percent, while Sun (sun.com) and Dell dell.com) held 13.0 and 9.8 percent market share respectively. Dell was the fastest growing server vendor, growing 20.1 percent from the second quarter of 2003 to the second quarter of 2004. IBM was a distant second in terms of growth at 10.8 percent.
