Sep 10, 2004 : DataPipe Scales Gas Buddy Web Hosting

datapipe.com logo📅 - Web hosting provider DataPipe (datapipe.com) said it scaled operations recently to accommodate high traffic related to its client, GasBuddy.com. The heavily publicized Gas Buddy, which calls itself the ultimate portal for local gas price information, has real-time updated information on everything fuel related.

Users enter their zip codes to find the range of gas prices available in the area and the cheapest provider, compiled by thousands of volunteer gas price spotters across North America. Surveying an average of 150,000 stations a week in the US and Canada, the site saw its usage increase by nearly 30 percent in one day over its daily average when gas prices rose above $2 per gallon earlier this summer.
"Over the three year period that we've been managing their account they have leapt from a shared server to a number of dedicated servers," says DataPipe CEO Robb Allen. "This is a great example of how DataPipe's support teams closely monitor our clients' accounts and are ready to scale operations so that they never experience even a minute of downtime."
Gas Buddy went online in 2000, later joining DataPipe under one of its virtual solutions. After starting locally in Minneapolis, Gas Buddy expanded nationwide to meet the growing demand, transferring over 900GB of data last month. DataPipe now manages a dedicated solution for the site, which provides users with a variety of fuel related services, which includes tracking fuel expenses, fuel saving tips and charting the historical prices of gasoline for up to two years.
