Nov 18, 2004 : Port 80 Software Releases httpZip 2.0
📅 - Port 80 Software (port80software.com), a developer of Microsoft Web server add-on tools, announced on Wednesday that it has released httpZip 2.0, an upgraded version of the company's flagship http compression software for Microsoft IIS Web servers.
According to Port 80, its http compression software helps accelerate IIS-based Web sites and applications and increases bandwidth savings for less than $300 per server, a cost the company says is much more affordable than deploying hardware acceleration appliances, which can start in the neighborhood of $30,000. Port 80's November 2004 http compression software survey showed that among the six percent of the Fortune 1000 that deployed compression, the average savings in bandwidth was 23.5 percent, while home page delivery was sped up by an average of 5.19 seconds.
"HTTP compression is a safe, easy way to speed up Web applications," says Joseph Lima, COO of Port80 Software. "Major sites like Amazon.com and eBay.com depend on Web compression for a competitive advantage by lowering their transfer costs and speeding up their Web servers. E-commerce site owners know that dramatically faster pages lower abandonment rates among customers on dial-up and slower connections. Now, companies with Web-based business apps are discovering that the transparent acceleration from compression leads to more productive remote and LAN employees."
HttpZip runs on all versions of IIS.
