Jan 25, 2005 : Allstream Moves to Equinix Data Centers

📅 January 25, 2005 - Data center and Internet exchange operator Equinix (equinix.com) announced on Tuesday that Canadian IT service provider Allstream (allstream.com) has deployed its network at three Equinix IBX centers ? located in New York, Chicago and Washington DC ? expanding its overall peering connectivity capabilities.

"The presence of Allstream's network, one of the largest networks in Canada, within Equinix's centers will be a valuable addition and another choice for networks, enterprises and content providers already operating at Equinix," says Margie Backaus, chief business officer at Equinix. "Equinix's aggregation of customers will now be able to directly partner with Allstream for their peering needs."
Equinix says its GigE Exchange service enables users to link to leading ISPs, broadband providers, international networks and major content providers through a central switching fabric. The direct route, Equinix says, enables users to reduce connectivity costs through the elimination of transit and enhances network performance and reliability.
"We are pleased to collaborate with Equinix to further expand our peering connectivity capabilities with other carriers and content providers," says Paul Frizado, senior vice president of network services at Allstream. ?This will enable us to reduce the number of network to network hand-offs our Internet traffic must go through and substantially improve our customers' performance."
