Feb 15, 2005 : Virtual Iron Launches VFe 1.0 Software

📅 - Tech startup Virtual Iron Software (virtualiron.com) has launched virtualization software capable of tying together multiple servers in a data center, assuming the processing power and performance of several connected servers. The approach to virtualization lies in contrast to standard virtualization solutions, which partition single standalone boxes into multiple virtual server units.

With Virtual Iron's VFe 1.0, computers are tied together into "blocks," which virtualize the functions of processors, memory and storage, separating the physical hardware from the operating systems and applications. VFe 1.0 enables the consolidation and management of up to 128 virtual computers, and up to ten virtual servers per adaptive virtual computer, reports say.
Scott Davis, CTO and co-founder of Virtual Iron Software, said in reports that VFe 1.0 helps businesses maximize computer power, fighting the poor server utilization that plagues the industry's data centers.
VFe 1.0 will reportedly appear in the second quarter of 2005.
Earlier this month, Virtual Iron Software joined the Open Source Development Labs (osdl.org), a consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux.
