Jun 16, 2005 : IDC Points to Utility Computing Uptake

📅 - Research and analysis firm IDC (idc.com) released a report on Wednesday that finds utility computing taking hold in data centers.

According to the study, 33 percent of IT professionals surveyed said they had deployed a utility computing program within their organizations. IDC says utility computing is gaining acceptance as a viable alternative to large-scale data center build outs, which are costlier and risk-laden. "As companies strive to rebuild their post-recession business models, CIOs are under constant pressure to deliver high-quality IT services, improve speed to market, control costs, and improve IT operational efficiencies," says Michelle Bailey, research director for enterprise computing at IDC. "To meet these often conflicting demands, IT organizations are beginning to embrace dynamic IT as a viable solution. Overall, these more flexible technologies will result in an IT organization that can more easily adapt and support the inevitable changes in evolving business environments."
The report, Dynamic IT for Enterprise Computing: Understanding the Impact of Dynamic IT Infrastructure on the Data Center, presents the results of a recent IDC survey, Dynamic IT for Enterprise Computing, 2005.
