Aug 31, 2005 : Web Host Globat Shuts Down Web Site

📅 August 31, 2005 - Web hosting provider Globat (globat.com ) has taken down the Tensae.com Web site because it breached the company's policy that forbids hosting of defamatory content, according to a report by the Ethiopian Herald.
Tensae.com is the Web site for Ethiopian opposition radio station Tensae Ethiopia Voice of Unity. The report says Tensae.com was forced to shut down because it could not substantiate allegedly false and defamatory accusations against senior Ethiopian government officials and other Ethiopian citizens. Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, the Prime Minister's wife and about a dozen senior ministers and politicians sued the radio station for libel or slander. Reports say the lawyer representing these individuals sent a letter to Globat requesting the closing of the site. Tensae.com was then notified by its host and given 48 hours to substantiate its claims, but reportedly did not comply. The site was subsequently shut down. Tensae.com currently posts a page with the phrase "This domain has been suspended." Globat did not immediately return messages requesting comment.
