Nov 16, 2005 : Europeans to Spend More, Says Report

📅 - European online marketing and sales solutions provider TradeDoubler (tradedoubler.com) announced on Wednesday that the results of a recent survey reveal that Europeans plan to do nearly 20 percent more of their holiday shopping online than last year. The increase can be mostly attributed to the convenience and time savings found online, as well as the competitive online prices and bypassing annoying crowds.

The survey showed that 56 percent of European respondents plan to do at least a quarter of their Christmas shopping online this year. Meanwhile, the number of people who plan to do at least half of their Christmas shopping online has doubled, when compared to last Christmas results.

The survey also revealed that while the number of online shoppers has increased, overall holiday spending is expected to stay the same, suggesting that a greater portion of total holiday spending will go towards online businesses this year.

High-purchase items for online Christmas shoppers are likely to be gifts, followed by holiday travel arrangements. Seventy percent of survey participants admitted that they can be easily distracted while Christmas shopping in retail stores, and often end up buying items for themselves. Sixteen percent of respondents said they are more likely to shop around and treat themselves when shopping online.
