Dec 20, 2005 : Racist Site Taken Down by Canadian ISP

📅 - Canadian Internet service provider Shaw Cablesystems (shaw.ca -> easyonnet.com) recently took down a Web site with white supremacist content after being tipped by the human rights organization Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies.

The Canadian Homeland Migration Web site was located at a shaw.ca user address. Leo Alder, director of national affairs for the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, said the site had language reminiscent of the white supremacist David Lane and called for the creation of a segregated "Whites Only" community in the Pacific Northwest. It also linked to other racist Web sites.

Mike Harrison, a representative for Shaw Cablesystems, said the notification from the Friends of Wiesenthal Center prompted a review of the site, which was then deemed to be in violation of its acceptable use policy and taken down.

"Our organization has always been proud of how Canadian Internet services take their responsibilities seriously, and how they are vigilant to see to it that there is no breach of either Canada's laws or Internet companies' terms of service," says Alder.
