Jan 10, 2006 : Novell Unveils Open Source Project

📅 - Linux distributor Novell (novell.com) announced on Monday that it had released the AppArmor Project, an open source project for advancing Linux application security.

AppArmor, integrated with the Linux operating system, features configuration and monitoring tools that protect Linux applications from internal and external threats.

Novell donated its AppArmor code to provide a foundation for the project and is encouraging open source community members to collaborate. The project provides developers complete access to the latest AppArmor code in addition to tools for reviewing, testing and developing AppArmor technology.

"Novell is focused on ensuring open source technology can meet the most demanding enterprise needs, and few issues are as important to enterprises as having a very simple means to ensure application security," says Jeff Jaffe, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Novell. "With AppArmor technology now freely available under open source license, the community has at its disposal some excellent technology to address security issues."
