Feb 10, 2006 : Level 3 Buys Apollo Capacity

level3.com logo📅 - Telecoms company Level 3 Communications (level3.com) announced on Friday it has signed a definitive agreement with Apollo Submarine Cable System (apollo-scs.com) to acquire additional transatlantic capacity for its international network.

According to the agreement, Level 3 will purchase 300GB of transatlantic capacity for immediate access. It also has the option to purchase 300GB of additional capacity, bringing the contracted capacity up to a total of 600GB.

Level 3's clientele continues to rapidly grow, with its global IP backbone network currently carrying over 3.7 petabytes of IP traffic every day. The IP traffic carried across its transatlantic network has doubled in the past 12 months.

"The purchase increases the total available capacity on our transatlantic network to more than 700 Gigabits immediately and greater than 1000 Gigabits should we exercise our right," says Brady Rafuse, president of Level 3 in Europe. "This investment facilitates the ongoing scalability of our network, guaranteeing supply to accommodate growth in the medium term."
