Apr 7, 2006 : .EU Land Rush Period Begins Today

📅 April 7, 2006 - DADA Group company and domain registry Register.it (register.it) announced on Thursday that the "land rush period" begins today, enabling individuals, businesses and organizations residing in the European Union with a registered office or headquarters in the EU area to register their .EU domain name in real time.


Rights to a .EU domain will be assigned on a first come first served basis for available domain names. Register.it says it has high expectations for requests, having already received 20 thousand free reservations for the new European domains. Introduced last December, the .EU domains have generated considerable interest particularly from companies owning registered brands, who in the last few weeks have requested pre-registration for domains during the "sunrise period" which recently ended. Over the last few months, Register.it has received and processed more than 8,000 .EU domain reservations.  Eurid (eurid.org), the non-profit organization appointed by the European Commission to grant .EU domains, says it anticipates several hundred thousand expected requests for the .EU domains.
