📅 - The European Commission has proposed an EU wide sustainability rating system for data centers above 500 kW, exposing energy and water performance to comparison as Europe races to expand computing capacity. Operators would receive standardized labels from reported data, while Brussels has started work on minimum performance requirements that could eventually determine which facilities remain economically viable.
For data center operators, this starts as disclosure and classification rather than a prohibition on inefficient facilities. But the direction is harder to ignore.
