The move gives networks another way to extend peering reach without managing separate memberships, cross connects, and deployments at every exchange, although consolidation also concentrates more operational dependence on one intermediary provider.
For network operators, the useful part is not the number 60 by itself. It is the reduction in physical and commercial overhead required to reach those exchanges.
