Jun 16, 2006 : Avaya Powers World Cup Network
📅 - Telecommunications provider Avaya (avaya.com) recently announced that its network operations centers have seen more than six terabytes of information transmitted within the first week of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Avaya is the official convergence communication provider for the FIFA World Cup 2006.
Avaya's convergence between Avaya Global Services in FIFA's IT Command Center in Munich, Germany and its network operations center in Coppell, Texas connects over 70 locations including all 12 World Cup Stadiums, the media centers and the FIFA headquarters in Berlin. Equipped with remote monitoring and trouble resolution tools, the centers continuously track the FIFA network performance of 30,000 devices and 45,000 network connections 24-hours a day, every single day throughout the games.
For the 2006 FIFA IT Solution, Avaya gets help from its Converged Network Analyzer, which focuses on the end-to-end performance of applications as they traverse the network. If the application indicates a slow-down on the network, analysis of the cause can help determine whether re-routing can reduce network congestion or whether a virus is affecting performance. Early, effective action helps ensure that end-users virtually never experience delays, outages or loss of data.
"The CNA is one of the tools on which we rely heavily for the FIFA IT Solution. Network performance can affect application performance, and CNA provides visibility into the applications," says Bryan Jefferson, the senior technical director for Avaya's FIFA World Cup Program. "It's a powerful tool that not only monitors performance, it isolates faults and notifies us when delays prevent operation within the level of quality need."
