Oct, 2016 : CenturyLink Looking to Acquire Level 3 Communications
📅 - Sources familiar with CenturyLink have stated the company is looking to acquire Level 3 Communications Inc. The goal of the deal is to gain the ability to compete with other telecommunications services on a more even playing field.
The deal may be several weeks away, but talks are still advancing. Level 3 is one of the largest providers and companies, such as Google and Netflix use them. CenturyLink has also considered selling the data center portion of their business.

📅 - 17 Dyn Data Centers Were DDoSed Globally - More details are surfacing about the recent DDoS attack on Dyn Data Centers. Now, it's known that 17 data centers were attacked in a massive DDoS strike. This strike interrupted internet services for sites, such as Amazon, HBO Now, The New York Times, PayPal, Spotify, Twitter and many other sites.
Dyn has servers in 20 data centers across the world and the attack was able to get to 17 of the data centers. It used CCTV cameras and DVRs to create the attack. Three data centers were not attacked, which were found in Shanghai, Warsaw and Beijing.

📅 - LinkedIn May Soon be Blocked in Russia - Russia is threatening to shut down the popular business networking site LinkedIn. The government under the leadership or Vladimir Putin, recently passed a law requiring all companies operating within Russia to store their data locally, and LinkedIn does not do that.
The law was passed in 2012, following the re-election of Putin in the wake of anti-government protests. The threat to shut down LinkedIn is the first test of the law.

📅 - How Safe Are Private Messages? - Snapchat and Skype have been singled out by Amnesty International for failing to protect user's privacy. According to the report Message Privacy Rankings, released this week, eleven popular messaging services were pitted against each other and Facebook rose to the top as the winner, the most protected.
The Facebook messaging apps Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp both scored a 73 the highest scores six points higher than Apple's iMessage and Facetime.

📅 - Russia Hacked by Ukraine - A Ukrainian hacking group known as Cyber Hunta released over a gigabyte of data taken from the office of Vladislav Surkov, one of Vladmir Putin's top aides. The hacked data includes emails among other sensitive material, which allegedly show proof of Russia's involvement in the Ukrainian separatist movement.
Mark Czuperski, who is in charge of the Digital Forensic Research Lab of the Atlantic Council, searched through the emails and described it as “serious hack.”
