📅 - After three years of operating under the radar, Seattle based startup Igneous Systems has announced it's first public offering.
The new offering, Igneous Data Service, provides data storage in the customer's data center. The customer doesn't have to purchase any equipment or install any software.
“Today, when people talk about the private cloud, it usually means customers are still buying hardware, installing software and managing infrastructure,” Kiran Bhageshpur CEO and co-founder recently said. “We think of ourselves as private cloud for real, as true cloud for local data. As our customer, you just consume storage resources across an API.”

📅 - Spying and Data Centers: An NSA Data Center in the UK - It probably won't surprise many to find out that the US surveillance outpost found in the UK has its own data center. This was revealed by a story by The Intercept, an anti-NSA online magazine from First Look Media. The story showed an incredible amount of details about the activities at Mentwith Hill Station, which came from documents leaked by Edward Snowden.
The first series of stories about Snowden's leaks came out in 2013 from Glenn Greenwald, one of the founding editors of The Intercept. The data center covers 10,000 square feet and was a $40 million project built between 2009 and 2012.

📅 - China’s GDS Holdings Wants in Nasdaq - A Chinese data center provider wants entry into the American stock market. GDS Holdings has filed for an IPO recently with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
China has been enjoying huge growth in the developing data center market, and according to GDS, there are few alternative data center options.
GDS are partnered with Aliyun, the cloud services division of Alibaba, and would like to enter more deals with cloud service providers.

📅 - OnApp Introduces Container Servers in New Update - Cloud control panel service OnApp recently announced an update to its service that it says “paves the way for a modern approach to containerized hosting in public and private clouds.” OnApp Cloud version 5.1 offers Container Servers as a beta feature, according to the company's announcement on Tuesday.
Container Servers handle failover, provisioning management, and metering of standard virtual servers with one important distinction: The servers are built on a CoreOS template. This provides a framework for Kubernetes or Docker deployment by cloud providers that use the OnApp control panel to manage their infrastructure.

📅 - Equinix Data Centers to Get Beamed Bandwidth - Laser Light Communications has chosen Equinix data centers as the first hubs for their project. The company is one of the first to attempt to commercialize network connectivity with laser beams from space.
With bandwidth needs across the globe skyrocketing, the company believes this is one of the ways to solve the issue. It will also help with those not in an easily accessible place for terrestrial networks. The technology is called free-space optical communication. Laser Light is planning to beam IP network bandwidth from 8 to 12 satellites.

📅 - MPAA Says Cloudflare, Foreign Hosting Companies Failing to Protect Against Piracy - The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) recently announced that foreign web hosting companies like Cloudflare are enabling pirates to violate copyright law and steal content because they do not discriminate between websites that routinely infringe on copyrights and those that do not. The MPAA wants foreign web hosting companies to help hold pirates accountable by reducing the amount of web support they can obtain while infringing on copyrights.
