MIT’s IDSS Conference Explores How Data Can Combat Global Issues


📅 - Our society is now generating massive amounts of data daily, but MIT professors say that's not necessarily useful. “Big data will not change the world unless it's collected and synthesized into tools that have a public benefit,” according to Sarah Williams, Assistant Professor of Urban Planning at MIT. She spoke at a panel discussion on the future of cities across the globe at MIT's conference by the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS).

Data can be used to combat global issues that plague our planet, like energy, healthcare, finance, engineering, computer science, and urban planning. The trick, as experts on the panel agreed, will be finding ways to use the data currently being collected in meaningful ways.
