UK Updates Snooper’s Charter to Allow for More Surveillance

📅 March 3, 2016 - On Tuesday, the British government updated the Investigatory Powers Bill, also known as the “snooper's charter”, in an effort to “address a wide range of concerns.” The bill has been met with strong opposition, and with the inclusion of expanded allowances for surveillance, including access to citizens' complete browsing histories during investigations.

The main reason for the move is the other areas of the company are growing faster than the public cloud area.

The company stated that they are preparing for a slowdown in new signups for the OpenStack product, which is their public cloud service. With more new public cloud workloads going to Azure and AWS, they are predicting a slowdown in this area.

📅 Mar 2, 2016 - Cisco Makes Major Announcements to Expand Hyperconverged Infrastructure and Cloud - On Tuesday, Cisco announced two major data center moves including the acquisition of CliQr Technologies and a new line of hyperconverged infrastructure systems. Both moves leverage the current data center technologies of the company.

CliQr Technologies is an IT orchestration startup based out of San Jose, California. Cisco is buying the company for $260 million cash. The orchestration platform has already been integrated with Cisco's Application Centric Infrastructure software.

The new hyperconverged product line will be called HyperFlex. It will provide a storage management layer to UCS.

However, recently, they announced they will offer the same service, but in reverse. Instead of shipping your server to them, they will ship your data from the AWS environment to you.
