📅 - Microsoft Tests Underwater Cloud Data Storage Center - Microsoft announced that it has been testing a concept previously unheard of in cloud storage: housing servers underwater, deep out in the ocean. The experiment may sound like a monumental or even ridiculous task, but it could be the future of data centers everywhere.
Microsoft explained that most people (half the world live within 125 miles of the ocean) live near large bodies of water, so placing servers closer to the majority of people would increase speed of transfer and optimize the way cloud services operate.
