Microsoft Awards Grants For Datacenter and Energy Efficiency Work

📅 May 16, 2014 - The Software Engineering Innovation Foundation announced on Wednesday that it has awarded 12 $40,000 grants to research teams from across the world.

According to a blog post from the Global Foundation Services, the grants, funded by Microsoft Research, allow the chosen teams to research software engineering technologies, tools, practices, and teaching methods.

For the first time, the SEIF expanded the contest to include applications from areas that focus in datacenter innovation and energy efficiency.

“These grants will fund teams from four different universities to study innovations in all areas of datacenter operations, among other areas of software engineering and Internet of Things. The subject matter builds on our commitment to energy innovation and sustainability and we see the results of this research benefiting not only Microsoft, but the industry as a whole,” wrote Global Foundation Services Senior Research Program Manager, Sean James.

📅 May 19, 2014 - U.S. To Charge Chinese Officials In Cyber Attack Against U.S. Businesses - The United States Justice Department is expected to announce charges on Monday against five Chinese government officials for allegedly hacking into U.S. businesses, making this the first time the U.S. has publicly accused another country of cyber crimes against the United States, ABC News reports.
