Sep, 2010 : Savvis Extends Savvis Symphony VPDC to European Customers

📅 - Service allows enterprises to quickly and securely design and deploy a complete set of enterprise-class data center services for a variety of applications.

Savvis, Inc., a provider of cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, yesterday announced that the company's enterprise-class cloud computing service, Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Center (VPDC), is now available to European clients through its U.K. data center in Slough. The company mentions that Savvis Symphony VPDC allows enterprises to quickly and securely design and deploy a complete set of enterprise-class data center services for a variety of applications. There is no need to physically procure, install, configure or manage any hardware.

It states that with two service profiles, Essential and Balanced, and a third, Premier, planned for a follow-up release, Savvis Symphony VPDC multilevel service profile capability provides a range of features, support levels and performance. With enterprise-class security, quality of service and service-level agreements, Savvis Symphony VPDC meets the needs of web hosting, mission-critical, test and development, and other applications.

The company further states that launched in the U.S. in June, Savvis Symphony VPDC is part of its Symphony line of cloud services. Savvis Symphony offers fully managed hosting services on top of fully managed, enterprise-class infrastructure. The line includes:
  • Savvis Symphony VPDC and Savvis Symphony Open - both public cloud services - which offer differentiated service levels with predictable performance for scenarios ranging from development and testing of new applications to automated capacity increases due to seasonality or unforeseen demand for IT resources; and
  • Savvis Symphony Dedicated - a private cloud service - which allows clients to tailor and scale their dedicated infrastructure at their own pace.
It explains that Savvis Symphony includes converged cloud network options ranging from public connectivity over the company's Tier 1 IP network backbone to secure, low-latency, quality-of-service-enabled Application Transport Services (ATS), its core Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based service. The low-latency distribution network allows the company to offer a complete, end-to-end, quality of service-enabled solution for clients - from inside the data center to the end-user location.

The company articulates that the availability of Savvis Symphony VPDC coincides with the completion of a 20,000-sellable-square-foot expansion at the Slough data center. The expansion project, announced in April, was necessary to meet the growing European demand for its IT infrastructure and cloud computing services. The ISO 27001-accredited Slough data center now includes a total of 43,000 square feet of data center floor space. It adds that the Savvis Symphony suite of services is currently available in 18 of the company's 31 data centers, with global access via its network across North America, Europe and Asia.

"Many organizations are turning to cloud computing, having realized that this model of IT management can increase business flexibility and reduce capital expenditures and costs," said Neil Cresswell, Managing Director for EMEA at Savvis. "But unlike mass market cloud offerings, Savvis Symphony VPDC is an enterprise-class service that addresses concerns large organizations have about privacy, security, scalability and performance." "We're finding that CIOs and IT directors want to run mission-critical applications in the cloud at enterprise-class levels of availability, security and connectivity while retaining a flexible architecture with capacity for expansion," Cresswell added.
