ReliableSite.Net LLC, a web hosting company, yesterday released Network Tools, the first-ever application for the Palm webOS that enables users to perform basic network testing functionality directly from their smartphone. The company avers that Network Tools offers a variety of essential network functions, such as retrieving the IP address of the device, pinging outside web and IP addresses, traceroutes, network information, URL decoding, URL encoding, and HTML header and source retrieval.
It states that the application was developed by it and will be available free to the general public in the PalmOS Apps Catalog. The company further states that network administrators and web site owners may find the application especially valuable in everyday operations and to help resolve customer issues remotely when a laptop isn't accessible. The application works on all devices running the new Palm WebOs platform such as the Palm Pre, Palm Pixi, Palm Pre Plus, and Palm Pixi Plus.
"Necessity really was the genesis of this application. Many of our technicians in-house use the Palm Pre, and no applications exist for the Palm that offer even simple network functionality. In this industry, however, being able to work from a smartphone is an important time-saver. We first developed this application for our own employees, but decided to release it to the world to allow many more to benefit," said Radic Davydov, Owner of ReliableSite.
