Jan 28, 2010 : Online Tech Launches OTManage
📅 - The company announces a hybrid solution that aims to fill the gap between colocation and managed dedicated servers.
Online Tech, a managed data center operator, recently announced that it has launched OTManage, a hybrid solution that aims to fill the gap between colocation and managed dedicated servers. The company claims that OTManage delivers turnkey server management for colocated servers for a monthly fee, with the same level of service and support that clients receive with managed dedicated servers. It states that It eliminates the hassle of day-to-day server management for colocated servers, freeing IT staff to focus on higher value-add matters than managing their servers on a day-to-day basis.
The company explains that with traditional colocation, the client makes the capital expenditure and manages the servers themselves. Dedicated servers deliver a hands-off solution where the infrastructure and servers are owned and managed by the data center operator. OTManage offers an interesting position in the middle - where the client owns their own equipment, but its racks, stacks, and fully manages the client's servers for them.
It further states that according to IDC (International Data Corporation), the total cost of ownership (TCO) for a server is seven times the cost of the hardware and software combined and 60% of that cost is attributed to server management. The company adds that managed data center operators like it can more cost effectively manage servers and lower the server TCO because they share infrastructure, server hardware, and engineering expertise across hundreds of clients and thousands of servers.
"Where some hosting providers see colocation and managed servers as an either-or scenario, we see the market as a spectrum of solutions" said Mike Klein, President of Online Tech. "OTManage addresses the gap between colocation and managed dedicated servers that many our clients have asked us to fill."
