Infinitely Virtual Adds CentOS 5.4 to its Virtual Dedicated Server Products

Infinitely Virtual, a provider of virtual server technology, yesterday announced the availability of CentOS 5.4 preloaded on all Virtual Dedicated Server products.

The company explains that major changes between the newly upgraded CentOS 5.4 and the older CentOS4 include: updated versions of Apache-2.2, php-5.1.6, kernel-2.6.18, Gnome-2.16, KDE-3.5, OpenOffice.org-2.3, Evolution-2.12, Firefox-3.0, Thunderbird-2.0, MySQL-5.0, and PostgreSQL-8. Better desktop support is offered through compiz and AIGLX.

It states that virtualization is provided by the Xen hypervisor with Virtual Machine Manager and libvirt. The company claims that CentOS 5.4 also improves upon earlier versions of Cent OS 5 by using KVM as a preview for new virtualization technology in Enterprise Linux, and ext4 as a technology preview in file systems.
