Apr, 2009 : Afilias Sponsors ISC and BIND 10 Deployement Initiative

📅 - Company joins Steering Committee to help oversee the next evolution of the DNS.

Afilias, a provider of registry services, today announced that it is a sponsor of Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) and its BIND 10 development effort. The company states that it joins other industry leaders as a financial sponsor and member of a steering committee which will oversee the multi-year development project to ensure that the next version of the BIND Domain Name Server architecture is design to meet the needs of the global DNS community.

It further says that Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) is widely used DNS name server software, supporting over 80% of the world's internet traffic. BIND 10 will set out to produce a new code base for the popular open source name server software. Partially based on the current BIND 9, the new version will focus on modularity, customizability, clusterization, integration, resilience, and runtime control, adds the company.

''In just the last decade we have seen the Internet transformed from a utilitarian tool to the life blood of business, culture and communications,'' said Ram Mohan, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Afilias. ''The DNS is the foundation upon which the Internet rests. Afilias is pleased to support this initiative to make the DNS be more flexible, resilient and secure to meet the demands of the next wave of Internet applications and technologies.''

''We value the commitment and shared vision of a partner like Afilias. ISC is pleased to have Afilias as a sponsor of this important project to for the global DNS community,'' said Paul Vixie, President of ISC.
