Mar, 2009 : Aussie Web Host Dedicated Host Shut Down

📅 March 23, 2009 - Australian web hosting provider Dedicated Host has reportedly shut down after being disconnected by at least one wholesale provider and its outsourced customer support line, according to a report on iTNews.

The Queensland-based web hosting provider has already been offline for nearly two weeks, and more recently, disconnected its phone line.

Google has a cached page of Dedicated Host's website as it appeared on January 28, 2009 at 18:54:16 GMT.

The company issued a new customer support number after its outsourced customer support service Web Hosting Support cut off the company in mid-December.

According to a Web Hosting Support spokesperson, the outsourced customer support service had closed down Dedicated Host's service after receiving a barrage of phone calls from "people chasing money".

Web Hosting Support says these kinds of phone calls have decreased drastically since the company's website went offline.

Additionally, two other web hosts have been affected with Dedicated Host shutting down.

Meanwhile, Hightek Hosting (hightekhosting.com.au), a web hosting provider which provided wholesale capacity for Dedicated Host in Melbourne, has decided to keep relatively quiet about the situation, declining to comment on its current position with the company.

A Hightek Hosting spokesperson did say that the company is more than willing to help migrate anyone who is having difficulties with their hosting services -- not just former customers of Dedicated Host -- to the company's own services.

As former customers of Dedicated Host find themselves stranded following the shutdown, some users on the Web Hosting Talk messageboard have suggested these individuals to migrate to an alternate web host.

In December, Ann Arbor, Michigan web hosting provider IAS.net went temporarily offline after it was evicted from its offices, only to come back online with a new office location a few days later.

The company said it was evicted by its landlord after it withheld some rent payment because of poor maintenance and the presence of black mold in the building.
