Feb 27, 2009 : Opus Joins Enterprise VMware Program
European hosting provider LeaseWeb recently signed an agreement with VMware to let its customers rent rather than buy VMware software for their web environments.
The enterprise partner level of the VMware VIP Program is rewarded to service providers that meet strict qualifications in the areas of design, planning and deployment of both traditional computing and virtual infrastructures.
As part of the cloud computing service vCloud initiative, VMware has established the VMware Service Provider Program.
The framework enables service and hosting providers to use VMware virtualization solutions in a way that aligns with their business model, which enables providers to offer virtualization enabled solutions, applications and services for their customers.
The VSPP is divided into three levels, comprised of Professional, Enterprise, and Premier.
Opus' vClustr hosting platform is built on enterprise class HP Blade Systems, LeftHand Networks clustered storage and VMware Virtual Infrastructure.
VMware's storage network gives vClustr the space needed to deploy copies of virtual machines on demand.
"We've embraced virtualization solutions early on," says Eric Hulbert, chief technology officer at Opus. "With VMware and our other numerous technology partners, we can truly provide on-demand, fully scalable, and redundant solutions. And we can now offer our solutions on a monthly rental model, eliminating the need for expensive up-front investments in technology."
