Feb, 2009 : Opus Joins EPA's Green Power Partnership

opusinteractive.com logo📅 - Managed services provider Opus Interactive (opusinteractive.com) has joined the US Environmental Protection Agency's (epa.gov) Green Power Partnership Program, a voluntary program that encourages organizations to buy green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with purchased electricity use.

According to the company's Wednesday announcement, Opus Interactive's participation in the Green Power Program commits it to continuing its best practices for sustainability, including not only increasing energy efficiency, as well as advanced cooling technologies.

Since its inception in 2001, the Green Power Partnership Program has helped encourage hundreds of other partner organizations to purchase billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually.

"Data Centers traditionally use a lot of electricity to cool the technology within," Opus Interactive marketing vice president Chuck Swanson said in a statement. "We took it upon ourselves to invest in clean electricity solutions, such as PGE's Renewable Power Program, to offset the impact that our solutions have on the environment. Currently 100 percent of our electricity comes from clean, wind technology."

This partnership with the EPA is the latest participated in by Opus Interactive, which became a service provider partner with VMware (vmware.com) in January for its vCloud initiative, aimed at helping enterprises and service providers of all sizes safely tap compute capacity inside and outside their firewalls using a common platform.

Also last month, Intel (intel.com) became the single-largest corporate purchaser of green power in the US, according to the EPA, based on voluntary green power purchases as a way to reduce the impact of conventional electricity use. It also announced that it will purchase more than 1.3 billion kilowatt hours a year of renewable energy certificates as a part of its approach to reduce its environmental impact.
