Created in 1987 by John Demco, one of the Internet pioneers who founded the ".CA" domain, Webnames.ca is entirely Canadian owned and operated. Domain registration and corporate domain name management aside, Webnames.ca offers a growing list of Internet services including shared hosting starting at $6.25 Canadian per month and web design services.

"Our objective for 2009 is to continue to enrich our product offerings, maintain superior levels of customer service and uphold our Better Business Bureau 'A+' rating," Webnames.ca president and chief executive officer Stephen Smith said in a statement.

Along with the move, Webnames.ca was able to donate its spare computer equipment to FreeGeek (freegeek.ca), the Canadian branch of a non-profit computer re-use and recycling center. FreeGeek was founded in 2000 in Portland, Oregon, to make used computers available to volunteer projects and non-profits.
