) announced on Monday it has launched its new corporate website as well as its new "green" initiative.

Founded in 2001, Nativespace says it currently hosts more than 6,000 domains belonging to a range of different types of clients - including businesses, universities, political parties, TV channels and e-commerce stores - and is "100 percent debt free."

According to the company's most recent announcement, the new website has been redesigned to better reflect the changes Nativespace has been going through over the past two years, specifically regarding structure and range of product offerings.

Some of these product enhancements include information about Nativespace's new managed dedicated server range, which launched earlier this year and begins at around $270 per month, as well as information about its network infrastructure and the company itself.

Nativespace also used the website re-design as an opportunity to promote its new carbon neutral initiative in partnership with Carbon Offsets (carbon-offsets.com), titled Nativeneutral, an upgrade from its previous "green" initiative where Nativespace provided customers the option to offset the emissions produced from their own websites.

Now, Nativespace purchases carbon offsets from a 3.6 megawatt wind farm based at Tamil Nadu in Southern India for emissions produced by the entire company.

"We have calculated our carbon footprint and have offset the emissions generated by the energy we use to run our servers," describes Nativespace on its website. "We will also continue to offset our emissions on an annual basis, making us a 'carbon neutral' web hosting company. Plus we have absorbed the cost of offsetting our emissions into our business, so you do not have to pay any extra to feel good about your 'green' web hosting."

As progressive and "green" as it seems for companies to purchase credits to offset their carbon output, some environmentalists contend that carbon offsets merely allow companies to write a cheque to market itself as "green" than stand as an actual dedication to protect the environment, because carbon offsets often lack clear standards or assurance they are reducing carbon.

However, Nativespace assures on its website that the wind farm it is supporting is a "CER project, which means it has been developed and regulated through the UN Clean Development Mechanism, as established by the Kyoto Protocol."

Many other web hosts have performed similar initiatives in the past. Most recently, Australian web hosting provider Digital Pacific announced in September that it has launched a new green hosting program where it will routinely purchase carbon credits to match the estimated amount of energy it uses.
