) reported this week that it would be making its CloudNine (cloudn9ne.com) cloud hosting service generally available this week, following a beta program and coinciding with a presentation at the Gartner 2008 Data Center Conference.

The company says it will continue to allow participation in the beta program, which has been in effect for several months.

At the Gartner conference, which took place this week in Las Vegas, Hosting.com sales and marketing EVP Jonathan Erwin presented the session "Business-Smart Optimization for Virtualized and Cloud Computing Environments" Thursday in collaboration with Paul Hettesheimer of Radware.

The company introduced the CloudNine offering at the VMware VMworld 2008 conference, also held in Las Vegas, back in September. Since then, Hosting.com has been testing the solution through the beta program.

"After months of collecting and acting upon client feedback, developing an intuitive and interactive client portal, and working with world-class manufacturers to guarantee the security, redundancy and availability of our cloud computing solution we are pleased that we have beta users waiting to sign the paperwork to purchase the solution today," says Erwin, quoted in the press release.

CloudNine offers a scalable solution starting at the also-scalable price of $75 per month. The package includes root access to virtual servers through a self-serve portal, backed by a 100 percent uptime guarantee and 24-hour support.

Hosting.com says it has "provided companies with single-tenant cloud computing environments since early 2007," by which it seems to mean that prior to the issuing of a product designed for more widespread distribution, the company was developing its expertise in the sort of clustered environment used in the CloudNine product.

The company says it developed CloudNine with the requirements of enterprise and SMB companies looking for opportunities to move their hosted infrastructure either partly or entirely into a cloud computing infrastructure "to capitalize on the advantages and reduced costs cloud computing provides."

According to Thursday's announcements, companies that sign up for the ongoing beta will receive a virtual machine they can test for 90 days, and which is prepared to be transitioned seamlessly into a more complex paid hosting solution during the beta period, or at its conclusion.

Cloud hosting solutions have been appearing throughout the hosting business over the past few months, with offerings appearing at the very larges companies, such as Microsoft, and among the businesses' smaller participants, such as Cartika.
