According to Future Hosting's Wednesday announcement, Future Hosting settled a dispute with the previous domain holder when acquiring the new domain name. Further details of the settlement were not released due to a non-disclosure agreement signed by both parties.

"The acquisition of the FutureHosting.com domain name is an important step forward to sustaining the long-term growth of our company," Future Hosting president and chief executive officer Vik Patel said in a statement. "Although we have generated tremendous growth under the .biz top level domain, we recognize there are a variety of key advantages associated with a .com online presence."

The developer of virtual private server automation application Server Doctor, Future Hosting serves businesses globally from small operations to large enterprises with its web hosting and other services.

"It is our belief that '.com' will allow us to attract even more support from small businesses looking to get online for the first time," said Patel.

As part of its effort to re-brand, Future Hosting will update links and graphics on its internal and external marketing operations. As well, it has notified vendors to update advertisements and promotional literature to send traffic to the new domain name.

Future Hosting, however, will remain accessible from FutureHosting.biz indefinitely. As a sign that changing a domain has search engine optimization repercussions, a recent Google search yields the futurehosting.biz site as the first result, with the .com domain nowhere in the first page of results.
