Nov 7, 2008 : IIJ to Open New Tokyo Facility
📅 - Internet access and network solutions provider Internet Initiative Japan (iij.ad.jp/en) along with network operation outsourcing company Net Care (netcare.co.jp) announced on Thursday the opening of a new data center in the Nerima ward of Tokyo.
According to the company's most recent announcement, the new facility will be the 15th data center launched by IIJ and its purpose is "to meet the growing demand for data center services in the Kanto area." It will begin operation in February 2009.
Billed as an "outsourcing-on-demand data center," IIJ says the facility will provide system operation and monitoring services, colocation services as well as network solutions like network systems construction and systems outsourcing. The Nerima data center will also be connected to the Shinsaibashi facility that opened in July, enabling it to also be used as a disaster recovery site.
IIJ says the Nerima data center will incorporate certain environmentally-friendly design elements, embracing the general movement of the Asian IT market to reduce carbon emissions, curtail energy requirements and introduce green technologies to comply with new legislative and regulatory requirements.
Some of these designs include installing solar panels and planting ivies around the building in an effort to make air conditioning more efficient, says the company. The building will also be equipped with energy-saving devices like LED lights and motion sensors to turn lights on and off automatically when not in use.
In addition, IIJ will be relying on the Power Usage Effectiveness index, one of the indices promoted by The Green Grid (thegreengrid.org), to ensure its equipment is energy efficient at all times.
