Oct 16, 2008 : Telecity Plans £29m Swedish Facility
📅 - European network-neutral data center operator TelecityGroup (telecitygroup.com -> equinix.com) will open a new, 4 megawatt, 2,800 square meter (9,186 sq.ft) data center in Stockholm to meet growing customer requirements and wider market demand, offering high connectivity to major local and international telecoms and network service providers.
According to TelecityGroup's Thursday announcement, this will be TelecityGroup's second data center in the Stockholm, its 23rd in Europe. TelecityGroup estimates the new facility to cost £29 million (or $50 million) to build and be launched in phases beginning in the first half of 2009.
"Customers are increasingly seeking premium network independent, resilient data centres to provide secure hosting and connectivity services," TelecityGroup Sweden managing director Niclas Sanfridsson said in a statement. "The continued growth of the digital economy and the evolving data center needs of enterprise in Sweden are combining to drive the increase in demand for high-quality data centers."
Also, according to the announcement, national Internet exchange Netnod (www.netnod.se) will have a live presence on the site from launch, offering global peering and connectivity options.
"We are proud to be able to support and provide additional services for TelecityGroup's growing customer base," Netnod managing director Kurt-Erik Lindqvist said in a statement. "Our infrastructure will provide enhanced peering opportunities for TelecityGroup customers and will both supplement and improve the overall connectivity offering in the data centre."
Earlier this year, TelecityGroup announced plans to build a 32,000 square foot Paris data center costing approximately $74.3 million.
