Sep 30, 2008 : 1&1 Launches MailXchange in the UK

📅 September 30, 2008 - UK web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (1and1.co.uk) announced on Monday is now offering its 1&1 MailXchange product, based on Open-Xchange's (open-xchange.com) collaboration technology to UK customers.


The company previously launched MailXchange in Germany in early 2007, then extended the offering to customers in USA, UK and France in May 2007.

Starting at £6.99 per month, plus VAT, MailXchange is a 1&1 hosted solution that requires no server management or licensing fees from customers. The solution is designed for small business owners and private users seeking an affordable alternative to Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint.

The web-based solution, which can also be used with any Windows Mobile smartphone, provides users with access to Open-Xchange's advanced web-based personal information management, email delivery, calendaring, and contact and task management.

The centralized document management system enables users to attach documents to corresponding tasks, as well as share them without emailing large files. With 1&1 MailXchange users also have the option of synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook.

1&1 MailXchange offers synchronization with Windows Mobile smartphones. While most email services use 'pull technology,' MailXchange uses 'push technology,' which enables users to automatically push emails, appointments and tasks directly into their account, without having to actively sync.

Although 1&1 MailXchange starts at £6.99 plus VAT per user per month, discounts are available for additional users to enable customers to scale the solution as their business grows.

Users can also choose to continue using Microsoft Outlook, and manage up to five separate email accounts within the solution.

1&1 MailXchange incorporates features such as document version management and integrated anti-spam protection. The product includes the .uk domain of the customer's choice, 5GB of email account storage and 2GB of document storage per user.
