📅 January 23, 2008 - Canadian Web hosting provider Netfirms (netfirms.ca) announced on Wednesday it recommends that Canadians secure their .CA domain names in 2008. So far, nearly one million .CA domains have been registered to date.

Registering a .CA domain name is especially important for small businesses targeting Canadian consumers, says Netfirms, as a .CA domain name coupled with a Canadian focused website helps establish a trusted brand that draws more Canadian customers.

"Until a few years ago, dot-ca domain names were typically more expensive than .COM," says Jason Matheson, product manager for Netfirms. "We started offering CIRA certified .CA domains for as low as $9.95 CAD per year - comparable to the industry standard price for a dot com."

Netfirms offers .CA domain names and business Web hosting for $9.95 per year, which includes a CIRA certified, dot ca domain name, a basic Web page accessible via the domain name, an email account at the domain with spam filtering, full DNS management through Netfirms control panel and round the clock technical support.
