Level 3 Announces Broadband Services Agreement with Japan Telecom America

📅 July 19, 2001 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (level3.com), a global communications and information services company, today announced it has signed an agreement to provide broadband services to Japan Telecom America, Inc. (jt-america.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Telecom Co., Ltd., one of Japan's largest communications companies.

Specifically, Japan Telecom America has purchased intercity transmissioncapacity from Level 3 in North America using Level 3's (3)Link Private Lineservice. With (3)Link Private Line, customers purchase dedicated amounts ofbandwidth connecting fixed locations while bypassing the public switchedtelephone network.
The service is typically purchased by companies that need to efficientlytransmit large amounts of data, video or voice.
Japan Telecom offers a range of telecommunications services throughout Japanand the rest of the world, and owns a controlling stake in J-PhoneCommunications, a leading Japanese provider of wireless communicationsservices. In 2000, Japan Telecom had operating revenues of more than $4.4billion.
