US Patent No. 6,262,982, entitled "High Bandwidth Broadcast System HavingLocalized Multicast Access to Broadcast Content," is generally directed tosystems that stream content through bandwidth separate from the Internetbackbone to remote points of presence. StarGuide's CoolCast subsidiary usesthese technologies to provide the CoolCast video- and audio-enhancedInternet portal, which aggregates live, high quality audiovisual content.
The CoolCast edge multicasting system allows millions of simultaneous usersto access its join-in-progress streaming video and audio through broadbandInternet connections, providing entertainment and information withoutsacrificing productivity for desktop PC users.
