Jul, 2001 : StarGuide Gets Third Patent On Internet Edge Distribution

📅 July 19, 2001 - DG Systems, Inc., (dgsystems.com) a leading digitaltechnology innovator for delivering audio and video to the broadcastindustry, yesterday announced that its StarGuide Digital Networks divisionwas issued its third U.S. patent, a broadcast system that enables Internetusers to access streaming content while simultaneously interacting withconventional web pages.

US Patent No. 6,262,982, entitled "High Bandwidth Broadcast System HavingLocalized Multicast Access to Broadcast Content," is generally directed tosystems that stream content through bandwidth separate from the Internetbackbone to remote points of presence. StarGuide's CoolCast subsidiary usesthese technologies to provide the CoolCast video- and audio-enhancedInternet portal, which aggregates live, high quality audiovisual content.
The CoolCast edge multicasting system allows millions of simultaneous usersto access its join-in-progress streaming video and audio through broadbandInternet connections, providing entertainment and information withoutsacrificing productivity for desktop PC users.
"As we continue to roll out the CoolCast portal, Internet users will benefitfrom the ability to receive high quality streaming media whilesimultaneously accessing two-way Web content," said Matthew Devine, CEO ofDG Systems.
Australia-based StarGuide has previously procured patents on components ofits satellite edge distribution technologies, and has additional pendingU.S. and foreign patents.
