InterTrust Launches Multi-Device DRM Platform for Secure Content Protection

InterTrust says its new platform is a lightweight, flexible, multi-platformenvironment that easily integrates with existing systems, enabling content,service and technology providers to access digital commerce markets in astructured software model. With the Rights|System platform, consumers mayaccess any type of content with any device, while the DRM experience isvirtually transparent.
The Rights|System environment consists of three components: packagers,rights servers and DRM clients. InterTrust has optimized Rights|System forcontent, service and technology providers seeking to deliver high-volumeretail-based and subscription services for music, video and documents.
Using a single server architecture, Rights|System allows service providersto deliver secure content to a broad range of devices including PC's, SetTop Boxes and video recorders, mobile communicators and consumer electronicscomponents such as game stations and portable devices.
During the last four years, the digital content market has changed andmatured dramatically. Web based file sharing systems highlighted the urgencyof intellectual property and copyright protection, while proven onlineretail models emerged, such as shopping carts and subscription-basedservices. In addition, content delivery is increasingly shifting beyond PCsto portable devices, including cellular phones, set-top boxes, and PDAs, asconsumers want to access content on demand.

Rights|System, originally code-named "Tiny Tim" for its small, lightweightfootprint, debuted within InterTrust in 1998. Since then, InterTrust and itspartners have deployed Rights|System in the form of technology for portabledevices.
