Veritas to Provide Data Protection to Microsoft SQL Server

📅 July 23, 2001 - Veritas Software Corporation (veritas.com), a company that provides storage software, today announced a strategic initiative to deliver tiered data protection solutions to customers of the Microsoft SQL Server (microsoft.com/sql) relational database management and analysis system.

Veritas Software will work with Microsoft Corp. to develop cooperative salesopportunities, service efforts and customer support programs intended toenhance the performance and availability of SQL Server 2000.
"Because of our work with Veritas, customers will experience an improvementin the performance and availability of their strategic businessapplications," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft.
The companies say they will work to develop and market a solution for theirmutual SQL Server customers that streamlines the process to implement andmaintain Microsoft's database solution.
This new announcement augments the recent release of Windows 2000, where theVeritas Volume Manager(TM), Veritas Backup Exec and Veritas Storage Migratortechnologies are included in the Microsoft Windows operatingsystem in order to extend the enterprise capabilities of Windows 2000.
Veritas Software plans to deliver three distinct classes of products to themarket.
Backup: for Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000, includesVeritas Backup Exec or Veritas NetBackupOnline management and editions: includes Veritas Volume Manager andVeritas SANPoint DirectHigh availability: includes Veritas replication software availablelater this year.
The products are supported on all versions of Windows 2000 Server. VeritasSoftware also announced today that the Microsoft TerraServer is runningVeritas NetBackup.
