Jul, 2001 : Telus Selects Xacct Technologies' Software Platform

📅 - Telus Corporation (telus.com), one of Canada's leadingtelecommunications companies, has selected Xacct Technologies (xacct.com)'Network-to-Business platform as part of its back-office infrastructure tohelp improve customer service and the profitability of its Voice over IP (VoIP) and Point of Sale (POS) services. Xacct is a leading provider of business infrastructure software solutions for IP networks.

Telus plans to deploy Xacct's solution throughout its nationwide network tosupport all of its IP services.
The Xacct N2B platform provides a real-time link between Telus' network, which includes equipment from multiple vendors such as Cisco Systems andNortel Networks, and its back-office Business/Operational Support Systemapplications. The information produced by Xacct's software platform enablesTelus to understand how customersuse its VoIP and POS services and then translate this understanding intobetter service and increased revenue and profit.
Telus also plans on using Xacct's solution to implement automated usagecollection for its Web hosting and Web domain services. Xacct says its N2Bplatform allows Telus to seamlessly integrate its existing multi-vendorinfrastructure, both the physical network as well as the back-office OSS/BSSsides of their operation, comprising of applications from eight differentvendors.
"When we initially built our VoIP service we found a huge gap between ournetwork and our business support systems. Xacct bridged that gap," saidRichard Polishak, service architect at Telus. "Xacct's N2B platform nowgives us a complete infrastructure solution that we can use throughout ournetwork for far more than VoIP services."
"Carriers and service providers like Telus are finding that point solutionsdeveloped in-house take too long, cost too much, and don't provide thedetailed level of information they need," said Eric Gries, president and CEOof Xacct Technologies. "Xacct has taken a platform approach to solving thisproblem. Once installed, our platform allowsservice providers to add new network and service elements as well as newOSS/BSS applications, with the ease of off-the-shelf plug-in softwaremodules, significantly shortening their time to revenue."
Xacct's N2B platform has also enabled Telus to offer a new POS service. Oneof the first customers is a gasoline company that uses touch pads at its gasstations for debit/credit authorization of customer purchases. Telus is thelink for capturing revenue between the gas stations and hosts at thedebit/credit companies, charging a fee for each transaction
The N2B platform collects information about the transactions and forwards itto Telus' BSS/OSS. Telus plans to add more applications, such as ATMmachines, to its POS service in the future.
