), the Web hosting subsidiary of Micron Electronics, Inc., now offers hosted softwaresecurity services to combat the proliferation of information securitybreaches confronting businesses.

Nearly 85 percent of businesses have reported security breaches, with 70percent of unauthorized attacks through Internet connections. HostPro'shosted software security services - based on Internet SecuritySystems'(http://www.iss.net) RealSecure technology - offers intrusion protection system at a low monthly subscription price.
HostPro says its hosted software security services provide a sophisticatedlevel of security for small and medium businesses to detect and preventunauthorized intrusions. While firewalls offer solid protection fromexternal intrusions, they must allow access to specified traffic. Combinedwith a firewall, intrusion detection systems provide an added level ofenhanced security previously only afforded to large enterprises. RealSecureprovides a continuous surveillance technology with end-to-end protectionfrom internal and external threats against network assets. It unobtrusivelymonitors network and server activity for signs of malicious intent on areal-time, live and automated basis. The system records events and canimmediately notify network administrators.
"As businesses rely more heavily on the Internet for communication, marketing and e-commerce, they are increasingly opening their networks, which makes them more competitive and efficient, but also increases theirvulnerability," said Rob Maupin, HostPro's area vice president for productdevelopment. "While large companies have the resources to invest in high-endnetwork security, most small and medium businesses lack both the capital andthe technical staff to monitor their networks around the clock.Essentially, we're providing a hosted 'burglar alarm' to complement afirewall 'lock' on the network." Maupin said.
The Yankee Group. predicts that managed security service to small and mediumbusinesses will exceed $600 million by the year 2005.
HostPro's new software hosted security services is available immediatelystarting as low as $50 per month for dedicated customers on Windows-basedplatforms.
