Aug, 2001 : Asia Global Crossing Launches Data Services in Australia

📅 August 15, 2001 - Asia Global Crossing (asiaglobalcrossing.com), a leadingpan-Asian telecommunications services provider, launched itstelecommunications services platform in Australia yesterday, introducinginto the market a suite of data services that will allow multinationalenterprises in Sydney to benefit from the performance and cost-effectiveness of the 200-city Asia Global Crossing/Global Crossing worldwidenetwork.

Asia Global Crossing announced its entry into the Australian market with thestrategic acquisition of the Asia Pacific operations of IXnet and IPC lastmonth. The acquisition is set to accelerate Asia Global Crossing's dataservices business plan and make Australia the company's third largest marketfor data services.
The acquisition added more than 140 multinational companies to Asia GlobalCrossing's current roster of data services customers and a further 40 pointsof presence in 11 countries throughout the region, including a networkoperating center in Sydney. Asia Global Crossing expects to generate morethan USD $100 million in incremental commercial data services revenue overthe next 24 months as a result of the transaction.
Speaking in Sydney today, Asia Global Crossing CEO John Legere said thelaunch of data services here is an important step not only for Asia GlobalCrossing, but for enterprises in Australia engaged in international businessas well as enterprises worldwide that want to access the Australian market.
"Adding Australia and New Zealand to our territory was a natural extensionto our Asian footprint that allows us to better serve local carrier andcorporate customers that need seamless connectivity and data servicesthroughout Asia. We accelerated the deployment of our IP node in Sydney,extending our services platform to Australia to deliver our suite ofIP-based services such as IP Transit, International Private Line, VOIP, andVPNs," Legere said.
Asia Global Crossing also offers corporate customers a range of dedicateddata and voice network services, including Frame Relay and ATM.
According to Legere, the Asia Global Crossing business plan will enhanceAustralia's competitive telecommunications environment by offering premiumnetwork opportunities made possible by the marriage of broadband globalinfrastructure and an advanced, competitively priced data services offering.
By implementing the Asia Global Crossing/Global Crossing worldwide DataCommunications Network (DCN) monitoring system into the Sydney POP, Sydneyis now included into the roster of over 200 worldwide cities that aremonitored and centrally controlled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from theGlobal Network Operations Center in London.
The Sydney POP operates under the same single AS number as the Asia GlobalCrossing/Global Crossing IP network, which allows global Layer 3 trafficmanagement. IXnet's financial markets solutions have been deployedinternationally by Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Chase, and locally by ANZBank and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Asia Global Crossing currently provides IP Transit for Computer SciencesCorporation's Australian network, Direct Internet Access for AC Nielsen, andinternational frame relay networks for both Computer Associates and AMPHenderson Global Investors.
Approximately 160 employees from IXnet and IPC joined Asia Global Crossingfollowing the acquisition.
