Aug, 2001 : IBM and Zeus Set Record Benchmark for Server Performance

📅 August 16, 2001 - IBM (ibm.com) and Zeus Technology (zeus.com) have announced they set a world record in web server performance using Zeus Web Server 3.3.8 on the IBM pSeries 680. The SPECweb99 score of 9,106 represents over 3Gbps of data traffic, equivalent to 50% of the peak Internet traffic passing through Europe's largest Internet Exchange, Linx in London, being transmitted by a single server.

This is the third time that IBM have submitted a SPECweb99 result using ZeusWeb Server on the pSeries 680. Since Aug. 2000, the scores obtained on thissystem have risen by 25% with the minimum of changes to the server hardware.
Launched in 2000, the Zeus PEPP initiative establishes a commercialrelationship with vendors with an interest in web server performance. Aspart of PEPP, Zeus has licensed a core component of the SPECweb99 test tomembers. Some of the world's leading hardware and OS manufacturers havechosen Zeus software for its high speed, scalability and robustness. Thecompany has worked closely with these vendors to ensure compatibility withtheir products and have provided assistance to them in related areas such asoperating system and compiler design. This software has now been used by SunMicrosystems and IBM as part of their SPECweb99 submissions.
Since 1996, Zeus has dominated web server benchmarks, in particularSPECweb96 and its successor SPECweb99. SPEC is a non-profit organizationthat establishes, maintains and endorses standardized benchmarks for thenewest generation of high-performance computers.
